Reasons Why Microsoft Edge Is Better Than Chrome

Reason Why Microsoft Edge is Better Than Chrome – I’ve been using Google Chrome for a long time, I love Chrome’s extensions, look and feel. But then I realized that all of these extensions now work in Microsoft Edge, plus the new edge gets a lot of extra features that I’ve always wanted from Chrome. Let’s see why Edge? Might be a better choice for me.

When it comes to internet browser Google Chrome dominates the market. According to statcounter chrome currently has a share of around 65.13%, while Microsoft Edge only about 3.41%. The main reason for this is from the availability of extensions that you can add to chrome. All these third party add-ons that allow you to customize browser behavior and add all these extra features are a huge benefit and even a necessity today for most of us.

Microsoft Edge which was completely changed in 2020. Edge is now based on the same open source Chromium platform as chrome or opera, which means that all the features and extensions you used to chrome, are now available in Microsoft Edge. But that’s not all, let’s take a look at some of the other important criteria that give edge being number one.

Reason 1 Edge is better than Chrome: Privacy

Let’s compare. Google chrome Not known for securing user privacy, I mean Google’s overall business model is to collect data and use information to customize ads, and even the results you get on its services like Google Search and YouTube.

Microsoft have different business models. Which is not focused on advertising. And with Edge, it’s even easier to configure your browser’s privacy level.

In settings Privacy, search, and services, you will notice that there are three levels of tracking prevention. If you’re wondering what trackers are described here they use websites to collect info about your browsing, you can choose from the three levels, there are Basic, Balanced, and Strict. The different options are described here in simple terms.

With the exceptions here what you can set are individual exceptions for websites to allow all trackers regardless of the mode selected.

Now you can never be really sure what’s going on with your data, but I like the user-friendly approach at the edge, which makes it easier for me to manage settings and keeps me more protected online.

Why 2 Edge is better than Chrome: Features

Since chrome and edge are now under the same framework, there isn’t much difference and most of the features are similar. However, there are some that I like on edge, the first is about multitasking, I usually use Alt for apps, but it doesn’t work for internet browser tabs. Unless you use Ctrl + Tab which is a bit inconvenient. However, now you can switch between Tab with Alt + Tab. You’ll see your browser tabs right next to the other apps in the task switch, so those three are tabs I like on the edge and both are other apps.

There are also several settings to customize your experience, click Windows Start, then select Settings, then click on System and select Multitasking.

With this setting, here you can choose whether to show all or only show three or five tabs in your last browser. So that you don’t burden the entire task shift. And the last option is Windows only. You can turn off this feature if you are not used to it.

Why 3 Edge is better than Chrome: Vertical Tabs Feature

Another feature I really like is the vertical tabs. Because I often open many tabs in my browser. Traditionally they are displayed horizontally which means they are getting narrower. You’re opening more tabs and cropping page titles, which makes finding a specific tab a bit difficult.

But on the edge, you have the option to arrange it vertically. This way the page title will be visible. To make this switch, you simply click the little square icon on the far left side of the tab bar.

Now you have separate columns with tabs. If you want to focus on the content of a particular page, you just need to collapse the panel. When you hover over it, it will reopen the panel.

I usually just pin the panel to always open. If you’re not familiar with the tab verticle, simply click the icon again to turn it off. If you have an updated version of Edge and you don’t see the button, maybe you should enable it in settings.

First. To do that, click on three dots at the top right, select Settings.

Select tab Appearance, on the bar Costume toolbar, and make sure that option show vertical tabs button activated.

Why 4 Edge is better than Chrome: Sleeping tabs feature

Another nice feature that was introduced recently is sleeping tabs. Which will keep the tab inactive for a period of time. According to Microsoft this can increase your memory and CPU usage by up to 30%.

You’ll recognize it’s off, by the time the other tabs look blurry. And to continue, click on the tab, and everything will look as it should the first time you open the tab. You can customize features in settings.

Click three dots in the upper right corner and select settings.

choose System, and you adjust to save resources with sleeping tabs.

Why 5 Edge is better than Chrome: Immersive Reader Features

Is something that I often use, especially on pages that have a lot of ads. This removes all visual distractions, so you can concentrate on the text. So let’s say I’m on this page which has a lot of images and ads. To activate the immersive reader, just click book icon. So that later the appearance will be simpler and easier to read. Or you can use the button F9 on the keyboard for a quick way to activate immersive reader.

Then on the tab Text preferences, you can customize the experience like changing the text size, or the background.

Keep in mind that not every website supports immersive reader. If you don’t see a button in a particular address bar, it means it’s not available for some pages.

Apart from that you also have the option to use the voice engine to read the text aloud for you. Just click the button Read aloud.

I tested it for Indonesian and English or German pages, it worked really well and sounded quite natural.

And on options Voice options, you can adjust the speed of the sound coming out.

Why 6 Edge is better than Chrome: Pemformance

Doing some tests to measure the loading speed of a website, in my opinion is completely unscientific. I can’t see any major performance differences between the two browsers.

Some pages report higher RAM usage on chrome in some cases. But I can’t tell that in my own limited testing.

With the latest update, I think it’s fair to say that Edge is developing into an excellent browser. In terms of popularity, chrome will probably still be the leader in the near future. But the extra features that come with the edge, convinced me to make the switch.

What do you think edge is a valid alternative to chrome ? please let me know in the comments.

I hope this information is useful, thank you.
