A few days ago, Microsoft has launched its new feature, News and Interests for Windows 10. Although the feature announcement was made in January earlier this year, it is only now that people can get it.
News and Interests is basically a handy news feed widget that sits on your Taskbar, where it brings you the latest and greatest categories that you find interesting. In my opinion, this will eventually lighten a lot of people’s work, because all the news people want to know will be available immediately.
One thing that ultimately annoys users is that any informasi opened via this new feature will open in Microsoft Edge, regardless of what the user’s default browser is. While this may not seem like a problem to you if Microsoft Edge is your default browser, it can be a bit annoying if you have set some other browser as your default.
This article will discuss how users can open links from News and Interests in your default browser, be it Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or others.
Opening News and Interests informasi in Default Browser
The process requires you to download a third-party app called EdgeDeflector, a pretty self-explanatory name in the context of things. EdgeDeflector is an open-source application that allows links to open in the user’s browser of choice, thereby overriding the settings of programs using Microsoft Edge for that purpose. Its use is not limited to the News and Interests section of the toolbar, but features like Cortana can also take advantage of it.
All you have to do is restrict links from opening in Microsoft Edge even when it’s your default browser. The preferred browser choice is Chrome or some other browser is to download and install the EdgeDeflector app.
Unfortunately, Microsoft does not allow automatic installation for this application. So, after downloading EdgeReflector from the official GitHub page, you have to follow the steps below.
- Open the app and give it permission to run on your computer.
- open Settings by pressing the button Win + I and select Apps.
- Next click Default apps in the left pane and in the right pane click options Choose default apps by protocol.
- From the list of applications presented here, search for Microsoft Edge and click the app icon to the right of the Edge tag.
- You will then be given several options to choose from. choose EdgeDeflector and close the window.
After applying the above changes, every time you try to open a informasi from the News and Interests section, it will open in your default browser. As mentioned above, the changes will propagate to all the links that you will subsequently open on your computer i.e., all links will work in your browser of choice, be it Chrome, Opera or Firefox.
If you don’t want to use the News and Interests widgets at the same time, the process for disabling them is also quite simple. What you have to do is:
- Right click anywhere in Taskbar You.
- Then find News and Interests and hover your cursor over it.
- This will then give you a list of three options. choose Turn off and the News and Interests section will disappear from your Taskbar.
