How to Edit All Your PDF Files Online

By | May 15, 2022

You don’t need to install Software just to fill or edit PDF.

If you’re stuck on a computer that doesn’t allow you to set up your own tools and don’t have a program like Adobe Reader, which comes with simple form filling and signature features, you can turn to an online solution for all your PDF editing needs.

Here are six simple ways to edit PDFs online, right in your browser. No need to download.

Google Drive

You can get a lot done with PDFs on Google Drive

One of the well-known features of Google Drive PDF is Optical Character Recognition (OCR). When you have a PDF where the text is saved as an image, you usually can’t search for it. However, if you save it in Google Docs, it is searchable.

In my tests, it removed any existing images in the document, and removed their color text and fonts.

You can use it to scan photos of receipts, handwritten notes, and other paper items into PDF format with the Google Drive mobile Android App. Google Drive will also remove the background, and ensure that the PDF it saves is high contrast and easy to read.

Google Drive also lets you connect to a number of other online apps from the Chrome App Store to give you other PDF editing capabilities.

Nitro PDF Converter

If what you need is your Word document to or from PDF, or PDF to Excel or Powerpoint, you should check out Nitro’s suite of online converters.

All you have to do is click on the drop down to select the type of file you are converting or select, select and upload the file to convert, and enter your email address. Nitro will convert the file and send it straight to your inbox. It couldn’t be easier.

We first wrote about PDFescape in 2008, and have grown a lot since then.

Apart from user interface improvements, it has received various new features. You can now highlight, draw, and add text, image links, and annotations of all kinds.

You can also add several types of form fields such as checkboxes, radio buttons, and text boxes for people to fill out. You should make sure to draw a rectangle around the form fields though to make it clear that it’s an interactive space once downloaded.

PDFescape also lets you easily modify an entire document, allowing you to move, rotate, crop, and add additional pages from other PDF documents.

Also, PDFescape no longer adds the watermark logo to your saved forms – hurray!

If you just need to make quick changes to an entire PDF document, there’s a good chance Online2PDF will do what you want.

Online2PDF will let you convert various files back and forth between PDFs, including other types of documents, images, MSOffice documents, OpenDocuments, and website XPS files.

Sometimes, you may need to combine different files into a PDF. Instead of converting individual spreadsheets, documents and slides into PDF and then merging them into one PDF, Online2PDF lets you convert and merge up to 20 different files simultaneously in one fell swoop.

You can also use Online2PDF to change the page composition of your document, rearrange the order, add, delete, or split files. This is a quick and easy way to, for example, combine resumes, cover letters, and portfolio samples into one file for potential employers, for example.

As for more unique features, you can rely on Online2PDF to remove password protection from PDFs, add headers and footers, and compress PDFs to reduce file size.

PDFfiller’s main offer is to make it easy for you to fill out PDFs. You can add text, tick marks, Xs, circles, dates, images and even add an electronic signature with ease.

One of the coolest aspects of PDFfiller is the many ways it lets you sign documents. You can draw it on a touchscreen, use your mouse, type it as text, take a signature with your webcam, or upload an image.

I tested the webcam function, and it works fine. You sign a piece of paper and hold it up to the camera, align it in a blue rectangular space, and it captures it. Then it automatically removes the background.

You can then change the brightness and contrast, and edit your signature as needed to make sure your signature appears the way you like it.

You no longer have to deal with the hassle of printing pdf forms, signing and scanning everything back just to get a signature on it. Brilliant.

PDFfiller also has a variety of ways you can import documents into it. You can upload documents, import PDFs from URLs, connect them to third-party cloud services like Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, or OneDrive.

If you’re using a computer that doesn’t have Microsoft Office installed and you need to work with any Microsoft Office files, you can get a lot done with Office Online. You can work with a variety of file types, including PDFs.

Like many services, Office Online will allow you to download files to PDF format.

Office Online will also let you open a copy of the converted PDF file in Word for editing as well. What’s unique here is that you can edit the content of the original file, unlike other services that just let you add it or fill out a form.

I tested it with my PDF. Word Online warns that layouts change occasionally, and as it says, layouts don’t have to be on point.

Office Online doesn’t have a problem with layout when things flow from top to bottom, but it doesn’t have to outline sections sitting side by side. This gets the colors and images right. However, it doesn’t have all the possible fonts in a PDF, so it might change.

Office Online seems to be trying to choose a font that looks similar to the original, which works for documents where the font doesn’t really matter. It doesn’t work at all if you choose fonts carefully for graphic design or layout. You really just have to try it for yourself to see if it handles your PDFs well enough.
