Google Book Search Engine

First, let’s see how to download books from Google Books for free.

What is Google Book Search Engine

The Google Books search engine has been around since 2004. With it you can search over 30 million titles, each of which Google has scanned and converted to text using OCR. Several magazines are also included.

When you click on a search result, you’ll see the scanned page, information about the book (such as author, publication date, and brief description), and a referensi to purchase the title in ebook or print form.

You can also add your own reviews and save books to your library.

Can You Download Any Title on Google Books for Free

No. Each title in Google Books is assigned one of four levels of access. They:

  • No Preview: If Google hasn’t scanned the book, you won’t be able to see the text. However, you still have access to its metadata and ISBN.
  • Footage: If Google does not have the required copyright permissions, you will be able to view up to three text snippets. The snippet shows multiple sentences on either side of a particular query. No snippets are shown for reference books such as encyclopedias and dictionaries.
  • Preview: Most books on Google Books fall into the Preview category. They are available for books that are still in print and for that Google has declared permission from the copyright owner. If a book is in the Preview category, you will be able to browse a variable number of pages. All pages are watermarked, and you cannot download, save or copy them.
  • Full View: Google assigns a Full View category to books that are out of print and that are in the public domain. A small number of books in print are also included. This is the only category from which you can download books from Google Books.
