Easy Ways to Bypass YouTube Regional Filters

By | January 1, 2022

It’s frustrating when you open a YouTube video and see a message saying Uploader has not made this video available in your country (The uploader has not made this video available in your country). Due to licensing issues, government censorship, and other regional restrictions, you may find YouTube content inaccessible where you live.

Luckily, you have several ways to unblock YouTube content like this.

We’ll show you how to bypass YouTube country restrictions and bypass whatever you like.

Use Proxy

A proxy server is the most basic way to watch YouTube content from outside your country. This is a simple service that connects you to a server in another location as an intermediary, connecting to the page you want to view. This makes it look like your traffic is coming from that region.

We tested about a dozen different proxy sites for this purpose, but most of them didn’t work. This is often caused by redundant server errors; in some cases, the video appears as a black box or refuses to play. Many still show a “not available in your country” message.

HideMyAss! proxy is the only one that lets us play videos. To use it, enter the URL you want to access, then you can select the region by expanding the random server box. You’ll find two US locations, as well as servers in London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Prague.

As such, it’s a great option for anyone who wants to access YouTube content only available in the US or Europe. You may be able to find other YouTube region bypass proxies that work for your needs, but we came across very slim results in our search.

Browse With VPN

A VPN provides more flexibility than a proxy server. They encrypt your browsing data in a secure tunnel connected to a remote server. Your connection is encrypted throughout the process, allowing you to browse freely without anyone peeking at you.

In particular, obfuscating your browsing with a VPN protects all connections on your computer. This means you don’t have to visit the proxy website every time you want to bypass country restrictions on YouTube.

After connecting to a UK server using my VPN, I simply refreshed the video above and was able to watch it without any problems. This is in stark contrast to the inconvenient proxy websites, which require sifting through several websites to find one that works.

If you frequently want to unblock country-restricted YouTube videos, investing in a good VPN is definitely worth it. In addition to accessing region-blocked content, a VPN has many other uses, such as protecting your privacy on unsecured connections.

While you’ll find plenty of free VPNs around, we recommend avoiding them. Free VPNs have to make money somehow, which they often do by selling your data or showing ads. Also, free VPNs usually have slower speeds and don’t offer servers in multiple regions. Thus, paid VPNs beat free VPNs in every way.

The Method That Doesn’t Bypass YouTube’s Region Lock

If you can’t get the proxy site to work and don’t want to subscribe to a VPN, you might be looking for another viable option to bypass YouTube region lock. Unfortunately, the situation is not ideal.

You may see suggestions recommending that you download YouTube videos to watch them in your area. Unfortunately, this didn’t work. We tested various YouTube downloaders and all of them returned an error when trying to download region-locked content. To download those videos, you need to be in the right country.

There’s also an old URL trick that’s still floating around the web. It claims that you can replace /watch? V = in YouTube video URLs with /v/ to bypass YouTube filtering. However, this is also a dead end. When we tested this, it pushed the download of a useless small SWF file.

YouTube Without Filtering? may be

As it turns out, your options for bypassing YouTube geoblocking are limited. If you only need to access unavailable videos occasionally, then using a proxy might work for you. But if you want to regularly bypass YouTube country blocks, investing in a good VPN is well worth it.

There’s no point in bothering with other methods. Unfortunately, they won’t let you get access to YouTube content in other regions as you please.
