Most of us are familiar with several generations in our family. But we all know that everyone’s family history goes much further than that.
There are websites available that can help you research your ancestors. So if you want to create your own family tree, with details you already have, that you can build with your research, this template is ideal.
Here are some great family tree templates for Microsoft Word and Excel for adults and kids.
Family Tree Templates For Adults
Depending on how many generations you plan to have or can include in your family tree, one of these templates is sure to be a great fit.
Five Generations Family Genealogy Chart
Since the templates we provide are for Word and Excel, there’s no better place to start than with those from Microsoft Office.
This five-generation family tree template is available for Excel as a download or for use in Excel Online. It’s a very basic chart with boxes, lines and nothing fancy, but it gets the job done.
Start by adding yourself and then work your way through your generation. There is plenty of space to enter your first name, last name, title, and date of birth, or year. So you have the flexibility to enter only the details you want.
Three Generations Family Genealogy Generator
Another template from Microsoft Office for Excel, this one creates a family tree for you. You will start on tab Family Members by entering three generations with spouse, parents, and children.
When you are done typing your details, click the button Create Family Tree. Then jump to tab Family Tree to see your creations.
This is a great template and family tree generator because you can easily change your genealogy with the click of a button as your family grows.
Six Generations Family Genealogy Template
If you want to go back six generations in your family tree, then check out this template from Vertex42. Similar to the first basic template from Microsoft Office, it is structured the same way and has space to add names, dates, and more. Tab Example includes a neat sample and you’ll see that it also includes the residency status for each person.
As a bonus, you can add a small photo next to each family member. Although the image will appear small on an Excel sheet, this is a cool option if you plan to print your family tree.
Four Generations Family Genealogy Template
For a neatly structured landscape view template for Word, this one from Template.net has placeholders ready for four generations of your family members.
Just replace your name, date of birth and location with the ones for your family. And if you need to add more people, you can use the simple editing features in Word to copy and paste placeholders and connect lines.
Four Generations Family Genealogy Generator
To increase the list of templates for adults, check out the next one from Free PowerPoint Templates. This template is for Microsoft Excel (not PowerPoint) and has lots of extras besides a family tree generator.
Go to each tab labeled and enter names for your mom and dad’s family members. The names will be automatically filled in to create your family tree in the same named tab.
What makes this family tree template stand out, apart from filling in a name for you, is that each tab contains well-presented details. You can add photos, notes, and information about each child.
In addition, you can click the button Details in the family tree to go directly to that person’s tab. And vice versa, you can click the button Back to Tree on the tab to go directly to that person’s place in Pedigree.
If you’re interested in family tree templates and generators with bonus features, this is it.
Family Tree Templates For Kids
Maybe your child has a school project, or you just want to do a project together at home. This nifty family tree template is an excellent choice for kids. They don’t go back through generations like those for adults, but they do offer a visually pleasing way for your child to see the family tree.
Family Tree of 12 and 20 Members
TemplateLab has a large collection of family tree templates for adults and children. Especially for the little ones, these are two really cute choices for Word.
The apple design gives you 12 places for family members. With neat apples for everyone, you can type in everyone’s name or use spaces for photos.
Other pedigrees have spots for 20 family members if your clan is a little bigger. This family tree template is designed more for written names than photos.
13-Member Family Tree Template
Template.net offers nearly 20 family tree templates for kids, including these two fun options for kids designed for Word.
One template has hand drawn cartoon images of all family members from grandparents to children. You can simply swap the name with your own surname.
Another template is ideal for photos. Insert a picture for each person from your computer or print it first and then paste it. You can type or write each family member’s name just below their photo.
15 Member Family Tree Template
Another template from TemplateLab that’s great for kids is the 15-member family arrangement for Microsoft Word.
It has a casual but colorful look that older kids might like. You can easily enter everyone’s names and enter additional details such as date of birth and location.
For additional family members, you can add more boxes using Word’s SmartArt Text feature. Just click on the chart and when the window appears, use the plus sign to add another name box. You can also use the arrows to rearrange boxes and move family members to the right places.
