You are on your way to work. As you walk up the stairs to the train platform, the doors close and he begins a slow roll towards his destination without you. You were only a few minutes late, and now you are stuck waiting for the next train.

Fortunately, technology has given us some genius ways to monitor trains, buses and subways. With this public transit tracker app, you will never lose your connection again.

You can rely on Citymapper to provide you with real-time data for all the public transit options in your area. If you are curious about train and bus times, press the Rail or Bus button in the main menu. Citymapper will open a map showing train stations, bus stops, and subway stations within walking distance.

Select Get Me Somewhere in the main menu, and enter your desired location. Citymapper will pull up all your transit options and your estimated time of arrival, as well as the cost of the trip.

Citymapper doesn’t stop at just trains, buses, and subways – it also shows you available rideshares, Ubers, Lyfts, bike trails, and even ferries.

Transit’s simple interface makes it easy to get from one destination to the next. As soon as you open the app, it shows you a map of your area, along with the closest available public transit options and departure times. Unlike Citymapper, Transit also supports Amtrak.

You can even track the real-time location of your buses and trains watch your train or bus approach your stop, and never worry about getting there late. Plus, you can enable push notifications to remind you of any service changes.

If you are not familiar with your environment, use the Go option to enable step-by-step instructions. This way, you will know exactly which bus stop or train station will allow you to reach your destination on time.

Don’t see a transit option that’s right for you? Easily use the app to call the nearest Lyft, Uber, or Via ride, or find a nearby bike share to use as your backup plan.
