Sometimes you will visit a site on the internet and find it blocked. You will not be able to access the site, even if your internet connection is working.
You can check if your site is working using a check tool that will let you know if the site’s server is down. Otherwise, the site may be blocked. If the site you want to visit is blocked, here’s how to unblock the website.
Why Site is Blocked
There are a number of reasons you might see an error that says “This web page has been blocked!” This site may be restricted so that it is only available in certain regions. Or the network you’re connected to may have a firewall that limits which sites you can visit. You can check site status using tools like Down For Everyone Or Just Me.
You may need to unblock sites if you have problems with automatic spam detection software. Many sites will block access to a range of IP addresses if they believe it is the source of spam requests. But sometimes innocent users can be trapped by this filter even if they did nothing wrong.
How to Unblock Websites
To unblock websites from behind a firewall, you have several options. You can try switching to another network or restarting your modem. Or you can visit the site’s IP address instead of its URL. If you only need to view the page, you can use Google cache. And if you have access to a VPN or proxy server, you can use this to access the site. Finally, you can try to unblock sites by using the Tor browser.
By Switching From Wi-Fi to Cellular Data
Sometimes you will find web pages blocked due to restrictions such as firewalls on Wi-Fi networks. If you’re connected to Wi-Fi at school or at work, for example, your network administrator can restrict which sites you can access. Sites that are deemed inappropriate may be blocked, as may sites that require a lot of bandwidth, such as YouTube.
If you find that your firewall is blocking a website, the simplest way to unblock the site is to disconnect from the Wi-Fi network and use other means to access the internet. If you are using a mobile phone, you can use mobile data to try and access the site. If you can access the site using 3G but not with Wi-Fi, you know that the problem is a restriction on the Wi-Fi network.
By Visiting Site IP Address Directly
If you don’t have the option to use mobile data, you can unblock the site by passing the URL. The way domain names work is that when you type one in your browser, such as google.com, your browser is redirected to the server. That server sends more than text, images, or whatever else your browser needs to load the site. If the site is blocked when you type in the URL, you can try to access it by going directly to the server’s IP address.
This works because sometimes blocks only apply to domain names, like google.com. If you can go straight to the server, you can still use the site as normal.
To try this out, you’ll first need to know the IP address of the site you want to visit. Go to pages like IP Website Search tool IPVoid and enter the domain for which you want to know the IP address, such as google.com. Then press the button Find Website IP .
This will bring up the IP address in the bottom text box. In the case of google.com, the IP address is 220.127.116.11.
Now copy this IP address and enter it into your browser. You should be taken to the site you are looking for, and you may be able to access it even if the domain is blocked.

By Viewing the Cached Version of the Site
If a site is down but you still need to access it, you can try using cache. This is ideal if the site doesn’t update very often and you just need some information from it.
Cache is an older version of a website that Google keeps as a backup. It can’t display pages you need to be logged in to, such as Facebook content. But it can show you old versions of simple text based sites that don’t require login.
To use Google Cache, do a search for the site you want. You can do this by entering site:zzzzzzzz.com, for example.
In Google search results, you’ll see the title of the website, then below that is a snippet of the content on the site, then below that is the URL of the site. Next to the URL is a info that says Cached. Click to view the Google Cache version of the site.
Alternatively, you can also try to access a different version of the site, such as a mobile version or a version in a different language or for a different region. You may find that only one version of the site has been blocked.
By Restarting Your Modem
Sometimes your modem will give you what is called a dynamic IP address. That means that every time you connect to the internet, you will be assigned a temporary IP address to use for that session.
If a website has blocked your IP address, you can get around this by getting a new IP address. The easiest way to do this is to restart your modem and you will have a new IP address once your modem reboots.
However, if your ISP assigns you a static IP address, which is more common, then your IP address will remain the same no matter how many times you restart your modem.
How to Open Blocked Websites with Proxy or VPN
If you have a static IP address, there is another way to change it. you can using VPN or a proxy server to access blocked sites by masking your real IP address behind a fake one.
These two tools work a little differently, but for the purpose of unblocking websites, they are the same. You start your proxy or VPN, and the service assigns you a new IP address. Then, when you send a request across the internet, for example to load a certain page, the request appears to come from the new IP address.
This means you can use a proxy server to open blocked sites. If a site is blocked in your geographic area, you can connect to a proxy or VPN server located in another country.
How to Unblock Websites Using Tor Browser
If all these methods fail, you can try using Tor browser or other. Tor is designed to hide the location of its users, so they can surf the internet uncensored.
Similar to a VPN or proxy, when you use Tor, your real IP address is hidden behind the new IP address assigned to you. That means you can use Tor to access websites even if they are blocked in other browsers.
The disadvantage of using Tor is that it is slow and not compatible with all devices such as iOS devices. But if you’re on a desktop or Android and you’re looking for a solution that lets you access text sites from anywhere, it’s worth a try.
