15 Things You Didn’t Know You Could Do on Instagram

By | December 27, 2021

Instagram is a staple social media app for most of us, but apart from browsing the news feed and uploading your selfies, there’s a lot more to do on Instagram.

While Instagram is easy to use, there are features, tools, and apps to help you get more out of Instagram. These handy tips and tricks will help you discover more to do on Instagram.

Get Post Notifications from People You Follow

If there’s an Instagram account whose posts you don’t want to miss, consider turning on notifications on that account. This will ensure that you never miss their Instagram activity.

There are two easy ways to enable notifications. The first way is to go to the profile of the user you are following. Click the Following drop-down menu below their profile description, then click Announcement. From there, you can toggle posts, stories, and live video notifications.

You can also enable post notifications directly from a user’s post. Click a post, press the three dots in the right corner of the screen, then select Turn On Post Notifications. If you encounter any unusual notifications, you can always turn them off by following the same steps and selecting Turn Off Post Notifications.

Remove Your Self Tag From Photos

Does one of your friends always tag you with unflattering photos or unwanted memes? Fortunately, there are two ways to deal with this situation.

Go to photos, and tap to select your username. You will then see two options: Remove Me From Post and Hide From Profile. Option Remove Me From Post will remove the tag completely. If you don’t want to remove the tag, but you still want to hide it from the tagged photo section of your profile, then you should use the option Hide From Profile.

Clear Your Instagram Search History

Instagram has various posts on it, and maybe you don’t want your friends to see your searches

To clear your search history, navigate to your profile, select the three bars at the top right of the screen, and select Settings at the bottom of the slide-out menu. You can then choose Settings, which will take you to a screen that says Clear Search History in the below section. Choose that option to free yourself from all those awkward search terms.

Keep in mind that selecting this will prevent Instagram from autofilling your general search terms, so check your decision before confirming.

See Latest Instagram Posts you like

If you want to find photos you’ve liked in the past, you don’t have to spend hours searching through your news feed or other people’s profiles.

Instead, just go to your profile, click the three bars at the top right of the screen, then select Settings > Account > Posts You’ve Liked. This will open a feed of the most recent 300 posts that you like, which you can explore at will.

Edit Your Instagram Posts Like a Pro

Many people quickly install a photo filter and then upload their photo without making any other changes. While Instagram filters work great, you can make your photos even better by using Instagram’s extensive editing options that include brightness, contrast, structure, warmth, and saturation.

To access these editing tools, select Edit at the bottom of the screen next to Filters.

Use Less Data When Using Instagram

Because Instagram automatically loads photos and videos, it can quickly use up your data.

To limit the amount of data Instagram uses, go to your profile, select the three bars on the top right, select options Settings, tap Cellular Data Use and then activate Data Saver. You may find that photos and videos take longer to load, but your overall data usage will be significantly reduced.

Post From Multiple Instagram Accounts

Just like Twitter, you can referensi multiple Instagram accounts to one phone without having to log in and out all the time.

To referensi a new Instagram account to your app, go to your profile, tap the three bars at the top right of the screen, and select Add Account. Instagram will then direct you to a screen where you can either sign in to an existing account or create a new one.

Create Collage

Instagram has a linked app called Layout (available for iOS and Android) which allows you to create collages and upload them to Instagram or other social media sites. You can access Layouts via the app itself, or referensi to them via your Instagram app by pressing the collage button while selecting your photos for editing.

Once you access Layouts, you have several different collage options, all of which can be customized with respect to the size of your panels and the order of your images. You can also choose to flip images, mirror images, and insert borders between your photos.

Make Your Instagram Posts More Interesting

Wondering how your friends posted those short looping videos? It was likely created using the Boomerang app (available for iOS and Android). It lets you create short, looping videos that play over and over again in your friends feed. You should definitely take advantage of Boomerang, as it’s one of the most fun things to do on Instagram.

Find Related Hashtags to Use

The secret to Instagram’s success is using the main hashtag. It lets you connect with other users, find interesting content, and help other users find your posts.

To make your posts more popular, you can use tools like Hashtagify. This website takes any keywords you enter and provides you with related hashtags. For example, using #pet, #cute, or #animal can help to pay more attention to the photos you upload of your #hamster.

Filter Instagram Comments

Want to get rid of inappropriate or abusive comments that appear on your posts? Instead of deleting each comment individually, you can have Instagram filter it for you.

Navigate to your profile, press the three bars at the top right of the screen, go to Settings > Privacy > Comments, and then enable the switch Hide Offensive Comments. You can also use options Manual Filter which allows you to enter your own words that you want to hide.

Hide Your Instagram Stories

The ability to mute stories is one of the things you may not know about Instagram, as this sneaky feature often goes unnoticed.

When you don’t want someone to see your story for whatever reason, you can actually hide it from them. Go to the three bars on your profile and tap Settings > Privacy > Story. Clicking on 0 People under options Hide Story From takes you to a screen where you can select unwanted story watchers.

Mute Stories From Specific Users

It can be annoying when someone you follow is constantly posting stories. In this case, you can choose to mute them. To mute someone, go to your story feed and hold down on that user’s icon. After the menu appears, select Mute > Mute Stories.

Skip, Pause and Back to Story

To avoid sitting on every story in your feed, you can swipe left or tap the screen to quickly move to the next story. On the other hand, you can pause the story by tapping and holding the screen. You can also return to the previous story by tapping the left side of the screen, or by swiping right.

Archive Your Old Instagram Posts

If you want to delete a post from your profile without deleting it altogether, you must archive it. To do this, go to the post you want to archive and select your Instagram option at the top right of the screen, and press Archive.

Whenever you want to view archived posts, go to the three bars at the top right of your profile, select Archive then click Posts from the drop-down menu at the top of the screen.

Instagram is more flexible than you might think, and you can do more than just scroll through posts. These cool things to do on Instagram can definitely improve your experience by influencing how engaging your posts are, improving the hashtags you use, and making your daily use of the app a little easier.
